EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) — An El Paso County sheriff\u2019s deputy has been arrested on 22 charges after a months-long investigation found he allegedly facilitated the transfer of contraband and illicit drugs between inmates at the El Paso County Jail, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
Nicholas Guerrette, 29, was arrested Thursday, Oct. 29, in connection with the investigation, which began in November 2025 after detectives received information that a deputy assigned to the jail may have been helping distribute contraband throughout the facility, says El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO). <\/p>\n
According to EPSO, detectives with the Sheriff\u2019s Office Criminal Intelligence Unit conducted a months-long investigation that included executing multiple search warrants, conducting interviews and reviewing video footage and phone calls.<\/p>\n
It was determined that Guerrette had facilitated the transfer of contraband and illicit drugs between incarcerated individuals while on duty, according to the sheriff\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
EPSO says Guerrette was placed on paid administrative leave on Aug. 5, as the investigation continued. Following his arrest, he was placed on unpaid administrative leave.<\/p>\n
He was booked into the Teller County Jail on 13 felony charges and nine misdemeanor charges, including unlawful distribution, manufacturing, dispensing or sale of a controlled substance; possession with intent to distribute; possession of contraband; official misconduct; and conspiracy to possess contraband.<\/p>\n
Guerrette is being held on a $100,000 bond.<\/p>\n
Guerrette was hired by the Sheriff\u2019s Office on Oct. 9, 2023, and was assigned to the Detention Bureau\u2019s Detention Security Division, according to EPSO. <\/p>\n
