From a beloved Lower Greenville rooftop hangout to an award-winning barbecue newcomer in Allen, several North Texas dining destinations have suddenly called it quits. Whether it was rising costs or unexpected business shakeups, these closures are leaving diners saddened by their loss. These are the most surprising Dallas restaurant closings this month.

Sundown at Granada

After 80 years, the Granada Theater on Lower Greenville is shuttering, with concerts ending after April 2027. Before that, its sister restaurant, Sundown at Granada, will close on November 1. Opened in 2011, this local spot has been serving rooftop cocktails, weekend brunch, and comforting dinner dishes for the past 15 years. Owners Mike Schoder and Julia Garton have sold their property to a wellness concept called Bathhouse, expected to open in 2028. In a letter to the press, they cited rising costs, shifting audiences, and corporate consolidation as reasons for closure of their independent venue.

Vaqueros has closed in Allen’s Watters Creek. Vaqueros Texas Bar-B-Q announced the closure on Facebook, saying: “It’s been real… Doors closed today at 4. Stay tuned. We ain’t done yet.” It had just opened at Watters Creek in 2025 after starting as a food truck in Grapevine. In 2024, pitmaster Arnulfo “Trey” Sanchez was named one of eight finalists for the James Beard Award and had been featured on Cooking Channel’s Man Fire Food and Man’s Greatest Food. He had teamed up with the M Crowd Restaurant Group (Mi Cocina) to open the new brick-and-mortar. We do know that M Crowd is no longer involved with Vaqueros.

The fried chicken with cornbread brioche at Pillar was one of the best dishes had at new Dallas restaurants in 2024. (Courtesy)
Pillar

One of our favorite Dallas restaurants from Chef Peja Krstic (who also owns Michelin Bib Gourmand award winner Mot Hai Ba) sadly shuttered after almost two years in the Bishop Arts District. In 2024, Pillar debuted in the former Boulevardier space with a shabby chic design and elevated Southern dishes with a twist. We especially loved its stellar fried chicken dish, grilled leeks, and creative cocktails. As first reported by D Magazine, the Krstic was locked out of the restaurant because he owes more than $26,000 in rent and operating expenses.

Knife Italian Steak has closed at The Ritz-Carlton Dallas, Las Colinas.
Knife Italian Steak

Chef John Tesar’s Knife Italian Steak closed after two years at The Ritz-Carlton Dallas, Las Colinas. It opened when the hotel rebranded in 2024 and was named one of Texas’ most beautiful restaurants by the Robb Report later that year. Currently, the hotel’s restaurant is being called The Dining Room, but will eventually be replaced by a new signature restaurant in 2027 as part of its “ongoing evolution” since the rebranding, according to Dallas Business Journal. Tesar has now taken on a new role as Executive Corporate Chef at The Palladino Group, which owns the new Dallas outpost of Palladino’s in Preston Royal.

NADC Burger opened its second North Texas outpost in Uptown Dallas in 2025, and it’s quickly become a favorite. (Courtesy)
NADC Burger

After a little over a year, one of our favorite new burger spots, NADC, has shuttered in Uptown Dallas. From Fort Worth-based pro skater Neen Williams and Michelin-starred Chef Phillip Frankland, the Dallas outpost opened in the former Playground Bar space — not the best location, in our opinion. It’s tough to find parking if you just want to go in and grab a burger, which they only had one of on the menu, plus fries. We don’t yet know why it closed, but that’s the reason we never got back for a second visit despite the awesome smashburger.

               SHOP

Grove Hill

Eighteen Forty Two

MacKenzie-Childs

Verdadero Tequila

Pecos Jane

Zilker Belts

Zilker Brewing

Hutson Clothing Co.

Zadok Jewelers

Dallas’ restaurant scene is always evolving, but some recent closings have caught us completely off guard.
