SAN ANTONIO \u2013 A video of a student reading a poem about Charlie Kirk at the University of Texas-San Antonio has caught the attention of university system officials and is under review for \u201cthe incitement of violence.\u201d<\/p>\n
The University of Texas System officials posted a joint statement Thursday on X that said \u201cWe will not tolerate the incitement of violence or the threat of incitement of violence by any member of our UT community.\u201d<\/p>\n
A UTSA spokesman said in an email sent Friday that the poem does not reflect the school\u2019s values.<\/p>\n
In the video posted to social media this week, a woman approaches a booth on UTSA\u2019s campus for a Pick Up the Mic event, hosted by Texas Youth Summit founder Christian Collins.<\/p>\n
Collins, a conservative political activist, said he would pray for the student after she read a poem he described as \u201ccelebrating the assassination of Charlie Kirk.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kirk was fatally shot last September at a Turning Point event in Utah.<\/p>\n
The student is under review, according to a UTSA spokesman. It is unclear if she will face any discipline, and the university declined to comment further on it.<\/p>\n
From UT System Board of Regents Chairman Kevin Eltife and UT System Chancellor John Zerwas: \u201cWe have been apprised of the incident at UT San Antonio. Let us be clear \u2014 we will not tolerate the incitement of violence or the threat of incitement of violence by any member of our UT community. UT San Antonio will handle this incident consistent with the law.\u201d<\/p>\n
