{"id":481995,"date":"2026-10-31T02:42:12","date_gmt":"2026-10-31T02:42:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/481995\/"},"modified":"2026-10-31T02:42:12","modified_gmt":"2026-10-31T02:42:12","slug":"report-of-armed-man-in-north-austin-prompts-mccallum-high-school-to-go-on-secure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/481995\/","title":{"rendered":"Report of armed man in North Austin prompts McCallum High School to go on Secure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 Reports of a man displaying a weapon in North Austin prompted a police response Friday afternoon and temporarily placed McCallum High School on Secure status, delaying dismissal.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded to a gun-related call in the 5500 block of North Lamar Boulevard on Friday, Oct. 30.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses reported seeing a man displaying a weapon who may have been involved in an altercation with juveniles, police said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cbsaustin.com\/news\/local\/texas-ice-agent-indicted-for-striking-fleeing-houston-pedestrian-with-vehicle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ALSO| Texas ICE agent indicted for striking fleeing Houston pedestrian with vehicle<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The incident prompted nearby schools, including McCallum High School, to implement security precautions.<\/p>\n<p>Austin ISD communications specialist Dacia Garcia confirmed to CBS Austin that McCallum High School was placed on Secure status due to nearby police activity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our campus is in Secure and dismissal will be held due to police activity in the area. Students on campus are safe,&#8221; the district said in a message to families and staff.<\/p>\n<p>APD later confirmed that schools in the area had been removed from Secure status.<\/p>\n<p>Police also said several individuals were detained for questioning.
