HOUSTON \u2013 No. 15 Kansas surrendered two second-half goals to Houston, falling 2-0 to the Cougars on Friday evening at Carl Lewis International Complex in Houston, Texas.<\/p>\n

Kansas fell to 12-4-2 (6-2-2 Big 12) this season, while Houston improved to 11-3-4 (7-2-1 Big 12) on the year.<\/p>\n

The Jayhawks opened the match on the front foot, producing a couple of early chances to put pressure on the Houston defense. In the fourth minute, Jordan Rowan<\/a> received the ball close to the end line and crossed the ball into the 18-yard box, but a Cougar defender was able to clear the ball, granting KU a corner kick.<\/p>\n

Just a few minutes later, Rowan again passed the ball deep into Houston territory to Marit McLaughlin<\/a> at the top of the shot from outside of the box, where she fired a shot towards goal that was saved by the Houston goalkeeper.<\/p>\n

For the rest of the first half, both defenses were able to stifle any chance and attack, leading to a 0-0 score at halftime. Kansas held a 3-2 advantage in shots, and drew five corner kicks to just one by Houston.<\/p>\n

The first score of the game came quickly out of halftime, as Houston opened the scoring with a goal by Ella Morgan in the 47th minute off an assist from Skylar Miller. The score gave the Cougars the 1-0 lead.<\/p>\n

Houston didn’t stop the pressure in the 51st minute, when Samira Minor took a strike inside the box towards goal, but Sophie Dawe<\/a> was able to corral the ball, preventing the score.<\/p>\n

The Jayhawks attempted to fight back in the match, as Gregorski found the ball and dribbled to the top of the box, where took a shot that went high.<\/p>\n

In the 70th minute, Gregorski was able to find another shot to try and tie the match, but her shot was again saved by the Cougar keeper to keep Kansas scoreless.<\/p>\n

The Cougars were able to add to their lead as the match drew down. Ava Shannon took a run with the ball and saw an opening in the goal, to where she put a shot on the ground that went past Dawe to give Houston a 2-0 lead with 11 minutes left.<\/p>\n

Kansas couldn’t find a chance to score for the rest of the match, leading to a 2-0 final score in favor of Houston.<\/p>\n
