AUSTIN (KXAN) — Halloween has arrived, and one Austin couple is bringing the “sweetness” to Austin through a custom-built mobile candy truck business.

Founders Faryn and Greg Kinney launched Bite Size ATX earlier this month. KXAN spoke to the couple and asked how the idea of a candy truck came to fruition.

Faryn Kinney said she had noticed other candy trucks operating in other cities and states, and this was something she had not seen before in Austin, Texas.

From there, Faryn’s husband, Greg Kinney, an engineer, got to work on converting a truck into a mobile candy store. Meanwhile, Faryn Kinney, who has a background in marketing, worked on the colors, fonts, and brand identity.

“We’ve been trying to… flex our entrepreneurial skills a little bit and try something fun and just see what we’re able to do, and all of those things kind of culminated together and Bite Size was born,” Faryn Kinney said.

After the truck was complete, the couple then shared the journey through social media videos, and were surprised by the support of the community.

“I think after that first post, we had watched the views go up and the comments rack up. We woke up the next day and we’re like okay I guess we’re doing this because people see it now,” Faryn Kinney said.

Throughout the entire process, from the truck being only a concept to Bite Size ATX being a part of its first community events, Greg Kinney shared a takeaway he learned and what he would tell his past self before starting the project.

“I think it’s important to hear everyone out. Everyone has something good to add. You know, making, communicating with people and having that open dialogue is really, really helpful for the success of kind of any project, but especially this one,” Greg Kinney said.

As for the “sweetness” that Bite Size ATX is bringing to Austin, Faryn and Greg Kinney shared what sort of candy you could expect to see filling their truck.

“Most of the candy that we’re going to have on the truck is going to be Swedish candy, but there are some other European varieties as well. They’re all imported from straight from the source in Sweden and other European countries,” Faryn Kinney said.

Worried about whether the candy is gluten-free or not? Faryn Kinney highlighted that a lot of the candy is “gluten-free, gelatin-free, dye-free, and vegan.”
