(November 14, 2025) \u2013 No.13 Lubbock Christian University leaned on another all-around gem from Kennedy Chappell<\/a> and a dominant second half to stay unbeaten, grinding out a 63\u201353 win over Colorado Christian Friday afternoon at the South Central Region Crossover inside Massari Arena. \nThe victory pushed the Lady Chaps to 3\u20130 and dampened CCU’s season opener. It also extended LCU’s trend of strong finishes, as they outscored the Cougars 35\u201325 after halftime and rode a decisive 17\u201312 third quarter to take control.

\nChappell led all scorers with 20 points and delivered one of the most balanced stat lines in LCU’s NCAA era, adding seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals. She became just the second Lady Chap ever to record a 20+ points, 7+ rebounds, 6+ assists and 3+ steals line, joining former national champion Nicole Hampton. Martie McCoy<\/a> shattered her previous career high with eight assists, while freshmen Meg Meekins<\/a> and Raegan Lee<\/a> each added eight points and Kimber Mathews<\/a> scored seven.

\nColorado Christian, opening its season, received 14 points from UT Rio Grande Valley transfer Ja’Shele Johnson, while Hayley Luther and Jordon Heckert each added 11. CCU shot 45.8% in the first half but just 10-of-25 after the break and committed 19 turnovers.<\/p>\n
\nLubbock Christian and Colorado Christian opened the game with a competitive first quarter, highlighted by multiple lead changes. Meg Meekins<\/a>, who led LCU with five points in the opening frame, scored a crucial three-pointer for the Chaps at the 2:12 mark, giving them a brief 9-8 lead. However, the Cougars answered with a 3-pointer from Amaya Felix, followed by her layup at the 39-second mark, closing the quarter with a 13-9 advantage. Despite the Chaparrals’ efforts, including a defensive steal by Kennedy Chappell<\/a> in the final seconds, CCU maintained the lead.

\nThe Chaps began the second quarter with a series of missed opportunities, allowing Colorado Christian to extend their lead early on. Ja’Shelle Johnson scored a layup, followed by a three-pointer from Hayley Luther, pushing the Cougars ahead 18-9 at 8:59. Lubbock Christian’s Raegan Lee<\/a> responded with a three-pointer at 7:14, reducing the deficit to 18-12. Chappell led a late surge for LCU, scoring seven points in the final minutes. Her layup and free throw with three seconds remaining tied the game at 28-28, closing the quarter on an even footing. Chappell exploded for 10 points in the second quarter off 3-of-3 shooting from the field (4-of-5 from the free-throw line). With Meekins’ eight points in the half, her and Chappell combined for 18 of LCU’s 28 points at the break. LCU had an 11-1 points off turnover advantage in the first half.

\nThe Chaparrals outscored the Cougars 17-12 in the third quarter, creating a five-point lead. Lee hit a three-pointer at 7:38 to break the tie, giving Lubbock Christian a 31-28 advantage. Chappell contributed two consecutive layups, increasing their lead to 35-28 by the 4:55 mark. With 43 seconds left, Maddie Moyers<\/a> sank a three-pointer, extending the lead to 45-37. CCU’s Jordon Heckert closed the quarter with a 3-pointer, narrowing the gap to 45-40. LCU, with a 5-0 scoring advantage in second-chance scoring, had Mathews and Lee each with five points to co-lead the scoring in the period.

\nThe Chaps secured a 63-53 victory over CCU, concluding the fourth quarter with a strong performance. Chappell made a crucial layup early in the period, contributing to her team’s offensive momentum. Taylor Allen’s<\/a> 3-pointer at 6:24 and a defensive block later in the quarter highlighted a decisive stretch for the home team. Martie McCoy<\/a> played a pivotal role, adding points through free throws and layups, while also contributing assists. Despite a late three-pointer from Heckert for the Cougars, the Chaps maintained their lead, aided by consistent free-throw shooting from Chappell and Allen. The trio combined for 16 points in the final quarter (Chappell 6, McCoy 5, Allen 5). Chappell was consistent with her scoring providing 10 points in each half.<\/p>\n
\n\u00bb Kennedy Chappell<\/a> led LCU with 20 points and also provided balance with seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. She becomes the second different Lady Chaps member to produce a stat line consisting of 20+ points, 7+ rebounds, 6+ assists and 3+ steals in their NCAA-era, as Nicole Hampton completed the balanced stat line on four occasions (the last being April 3, 2016 against Alaska Anchorage in LCU’s 2015-2016 national championship title game). Chappel has also produced at least 10+ points and 5+ assists in three consecutive games, which was last completed by Maci Maddox<\/a> in January of 2024 (2023-24 season). Only three players have a streak of more than three games with a 10+ points and 5+ assists stat line (Hampton had an 11-game streak in 2015-16 and a 4-game steak in the 2013-14 season, and Hailey Burton completed a 4-game streak in 2014-15.

\n\u00bb LCU outscored CCU 17-12 in the third quarter and 35-25 in the second half. The Lady Chaps have outscored its opponents by a combined +32 (+10.7 average) in the second halves of its three wins, with a +21 (+7 average) in the third quarters.

\n\u00bb Each team had six offensive rebounds (Raegan Lee<\/a> had three for LCU), but LCU out-scored CCU 9-2 in second chance scoring.

\n\u00bb For a third consecutive games, the Lady Chaps overcame a deficit of 9-or-more points. LCU opened the season overcoming a 13-point deficit and have overcome a 9-point deficit in each of their last two games, as Friday they trailed by nine points a minute into the second quarter.

\n\u00bb Returning Lady Chaps Martie McCoy<\/a> had a prior career-high mark of four assists shattered Friday, as she produced eight.

\n\u00bb The contest was CCU’s season opener and they open the season against LCU for a fourth time all-time (all since a 2021-22 season opener). LCU has won all four season openers and improve to 5-1 all-time against the Cougars (2-0 in neutral site venues).
