SAN ANTONIO – Two San Antonio police officers were shot and a suspect was killed Wednesday morning during a shootout outside a West Side hotel.<\/p>\n

The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. at the Travelodge\/Ramada Inn off U.S. Highway 90 West near West Military.<\/p>\n

Police Chief William McManus said a woman had called 911 to report a possible disturbance, but the call was quickly disconnected.<\/p>\n

Before that call came in, an officer and a cadet sitting in the hotel parking lot had been taunted by a man making gestures toward them. The officers initially ignored him \u2014 until the disturbance call came in.<\/p>\n

Chief McManus said he shouted, \u201cI\u2019m not going back to prison,\u201d then took off running, pulling a gun from his waistband. That\u2019s when the exchange of gunfire began. <\/p>\n

Three officers fired at the suspect, and two were hit in the arms. Both are expected to recover.<\/p>\n

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

At one point, police said, one of the officers jumped on the suspect during the gunfire.<\/p>\n

The suspect\u2019s name hasn\u2019t been released, and investigators are still piecing together how the initial 911 call fits into the events that unfolded.<\/p>\n

Police have closed the access road in front of the hotel while the investigation continues.
