{"id":51455,"date":"2025-11-16T02:32:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-16T02:32:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/51455\/"},"modified":"2025-11-16T02:32:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-16T02:32:10","slug":"west-texas-cure-crew-doubles-fundraising-goal-at-type-1-diabetes-walk-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/51455\/","title":{"rendered":"West Texas Cure Crew doubles fundraising goal at Type 1 diabetes walk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; A fundraising walk for Type 1 diabetes awareness in Lubbock exceeded organizers\u2019 expectations on Saturday, raising more than $7,000 and doubling the group\u2019s initial goal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The West Texas Cure Crew, an offshoot of the Fort Worth Breakthrough Walk, organized the event to raise awareness and funds for Type 1 diabetes research.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cType one diabetes is a chronic autoimmune condition that impacts many and as of right now there is no cure, and so our goal is to raise awareness and raise funds, hope for a cure and in the meantime get together, empower one another, support one another and just let people know they are not alone and we are all here for each other,\u201d said Tala Porter, outreach ambassador for Breakthrough T1D.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Organizers said the community response exceeded their expectations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cFrom not only families who are affected by type one diabetes, but from community members, from partners, from technology members who are very involved in diabetes education is just incredible, we are so excited to see this event grow, going forward to continue having walks here in Lubbock and continuing having events to bring together families living with type one diabetes and continue raising awareness here in West Texas,\u201d said Sarah Benedetty, outreach ambassador for Breakthrough T1D.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The fundraising total includes donations collected during the walk and online contributions from community members.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 KCBD.
