The Arlington Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a 34-year-old cold case.<\/p>\n
Cynthia Gonzales was reported missing out of Arlington and her body was found several days later in rural Johnson County.<\/p>\n
A group of criminology students at the University of Texas at Arlington reviewed the case files in partnership with the Arlington police department.<\/p>\n
Gonzales’ daughter, Jessica Roberts, spoke out following the arrest.<\/p>\n
“I only learned about this program a couple of weeks ago,” Roberts said. “I was shocked to get the phone call that not only was my mom’s case already presented into this program, but it had been solved.”<\/p>\n
63-year-old Janie Perkins has been charged with Capital Murder.<\/p>\n
Police say investigators had looked into Perkins in the 1990s but she was not charged.<\/p>\n
New witness information has come to light claiming that Perkins had admitted she was involved.<\/p>\n
Detectives agreed that statements Perkins had made involved information only the killer would know.<\/p>\n
“I want to thank the students for their work and their dedication to this case,” Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said. “You helped us get there.”<\/p>\n
