I just returned to work from a weeklong staycation. I feel completely rested and ready to take on the work and holiday struggles I’m sure are to come. And because I’m in Texas, it turns out that I’m in the perfect place to have a staycation.<\/p>\n

A new nationwide study from Rove Lab<\/a> dug into vacation habits across the U.S. using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics\u2019 American Time Use Survey, and Texas ranked as one of the top states where people prefer staycations over traditional getaways. The Lone Star State ranked No. 9 in the nation for people choosing to spend their time off at home.<\/p>\n What Exactly Is a Staycation?<\/p>\n A staycation is basically a vacation without the chaos. No flights. No long drives. No wondering if you remembered to pack your charger. It\u2019s time off spent:<\/p>\n relaxing at home\/ or a hotelexploring your citytaking day tripscatching up on sleepignoring your email guilt-freehanging with pets who have zero concept of personal space<\/p>\n Think of it as: all the benefits of a vacation, none of the airport or highway meltdowns.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, a traditional vacation usually means staying somewhere else that includes hotels, Airbnbs, cabins, beaches; the kind of trip where you need an itinerary and SPF 50.<\/p>\n Both are great. But according to this study, Texans might be leaning toward the kind that comes with your own pillow.<\/p>\n Why Staycations Are So Popular in Texas<\/p>\n Honestly, it\u2019s not hard to see why Texans are leading the stay-at-home vacation movement. This state makes it easy to relax without ever crossing a county line.<\/p>\n First off, Texas is huge. A \u201cquick getaway\u201d can easily turn into a four-hour road trip and a full tank of gas- and that\u2019s just to get to the next big city. Sometimes it\u2019s simply easier (and cheaper) to stay put.<\/p>\n Then there\u2019s the weather. Depending on where you live, Texas gives you sunshine, mild winters, and enough good food to build an entire vacation around your dining table.<\/p>\n
So basically, while other states are packing suitcases, scrambling through airport security, and stress-eating $18 sandwiches at Terminal C, Texans are happily vibing in their living rooms.<\/p>\n
