{"id":53981,"date":"2025-11-18T04:20:06","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T04:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/53981\/"},"modified":"2025-11-18T04:20:06","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T04:20:06","slug":"tirz-dollars-could-be-used-for-old-nueces-county-courthouse-demo-according-to-commissioner-pusley","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/53981\/","title":{"rendered":"TIRZ dollars could be used for old Nueces County Courthouse demo, according to Commissioner Pusley"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Nueces County leaders are looking at a special tax district fund as a possible way to help pay for demolishing the old county courthouse.<\/p>\n<p>County Precinct 1 Commissioner Mike Pusley said part of the demolition cost could come from the TIRZ 3 fund. According to financial documents obtained by 3NEWS, that fund has just over $8 million in it, a balance Pusley said could support the project without putting a large strain on the account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe TIRZ fund balances now are well within the ability to fund that,\u201d Pusley said. \u201cAnd what we said is we won\u2019t ask the TIRZ to fund pay all of that in one year. We will spread it out over a three-year period of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pusley said he believes removing the old Nueces County Courthouse would open up a valuable piece of property for future development.<\/p>\n<p>He added that county officials are working on a contract with the City of Corpus Christi to develop the terms of an agreement that would use TIRZ 3 dollars for the demolition.
