{"id":54246,"date":"2025-11-18T08:30:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-18T08:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/54246\/"},"modified":"2025-11-18T08:30:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-18T08:30:10","slug":"el-paso-man-found-guilty-of-sexually-assaulting-child","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/54246\/","title":{"rendered":"El Paso man found guilty of sexually assaulting child"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">EL PASO, Texas (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ktsm.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:KTSM;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">KTSM<\/a>) \u2014 An El Paso jury found a 54-year-old man guilty of sexually assaulting a child, according to the El Paso County District Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The DA\u2019s office says Edwin Fernando Perez, 54, was convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child on Friday, Nov. 14, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">After deliberating for over six hours, the jury also sentenced Perez to 10 years in a state prison facility. Upon his release, Perez will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, the DA\u2019s Office said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The testimony at trial reflected that in 2022, the victim reported to a school counselor that she had been assaulted by Perez several years earlier at a sleepover at his house. At the time of the assault, the victim was 9 years old.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt takes a lot of strength and courage for a child to speak up against an adult, and to have<br \/>to endure the rigor of a criminal trial, as well.
