North Texas Food Bank<\/a> and the University of North Texas at Dallas will distribute Thanksgiving meals to about 500 families during a drive-through event on Saturday, Nov. 22.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis event comes at a crucial time,\u201d said Trisha Cunningham, the food bank\u2019s president and CEO. \u201cOur partners allow us to respond quickly when our community needs help.\u201d<\/p>\n

North Texas continues to report high levels of food insecurity. According to Feeding America, Texas has the nation\u2019s highest number of food-insecure residents.<\/p>\n

Within the North Texas Food Bank\u2019s 12-county area, nearly 744,000 people, including 250,000 children, face hunger, according to a news release.<\/p>\n

The distribution will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at 7300 University Hills Blvd. Food will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis, the release says. <\/p>\n

Each family will receive a turkey and roughly 60 pounds of food. Volunteers will also provide thermal clothing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re proud to support our students, employees and neighbors in Southern Dallas,\u201d said Warren von Eschenbach, president of UNT Dallas.<\/p>\n

The Albertsons and Tom Thumb Foundation awarded NTFB a $3 million multiyear grant earlier this year, the release says. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe holidays can be financially stressful for many families,\u201d said Christy Lara, a spokesperson for the company.<\/p>\n

How to participate<\/p>\n

No registration is required, but attendees must arrive in a vehicle.<\/p>\n

Families will be asked to provide their household size and ZIP code. Identification is not required, according to NTFB.<\/p>\n
