TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – State and U.S. representatives are weighing in on federal judges in El Paso blocking newly drawn congressional maps for Texas.<\/p>\n
State Rep. Jon Rosenthal (D-Houston) supported the decision, citing his experience being on the redistricting committee in the Texas House. <\/p>\n
\u201cI was right in the middle of all this so I\u2019m grateful to see the sensible decision by the Fifth Circuit and El Paso,\u201d said Rosenthal. \u201cMost of the folks that I know, and whether they\u2019re Republican or Democrat or Independent, think that gerrymandering is a poor practice.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gov. Greg Abbott has announced his intent to the appeal the ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the outcomes of going to the Supreme Court is a healthy thing for Republicans,\u201d said Sessions. \u201cWe have, in Texas, we have been used to federal judges reviewing lines in the past, and I have no problem with them doing that now.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sessions also expressed his intent to run for re-election regardless of the final outcome.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m planning on running for the 17th District of Texas, if it is the current lines or if they move, and this will be determined by the Supreme Court,\u201d said Sessions.<\/p>\n
