Well, soon you may see a Waymo glide by with no one in the driver\u2019s seat at all.<\/p>\n<p>Waymo is a subsidiary of Mountain View, California-based Alphabet, the parent company of Google. Today Waymo announced that \u201cfully autonomous driving\u201d will soon be introduced in five new cities: Dallas, Miami, Houston, San Antonio, and Orlando.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fully driverless operations start today in Miami and will roll out in Dallas and the other three cities \u201cover the coming weeks, ahead of opening our doors to riders next year,\u201d the company said.<\/p>\n<p>Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai discussed Waymo\u2019s planned Dallas launch on Friday at a media event in Midlothian, where Google <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasinnovates.com\/google-bets-40-billion-on-texas-buildout-of-u-s-ai-infrastructure\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced plans to invest $40 billion in Texas by 2027<\/a> to add three new data center campuses and make the Lone Star State a centerpiece of its global AI data center footprint.<\/p>\n<p>More on Waymo\u2019s Dallas rollout<\/p>\n<p>When Waymo begins fully driverless operations in Dallas in the coming weeks, only Waymo employees will be taking rides in the robotaxis for the time being, as the company gears up for its Dallas public launch in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Waymo is already operating fully driverless robotaxi services for public riders in Austin, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The company said it currently serves \u201cover 250,000 paid trips and drives millions of miles every week\u201d across those five service cities.<\/p>\n<p>After the public launch next year, Waymo will offer its ride-hailing service to Dallasites through its Waymo app.\u00a0 In July, Waymo announced a new partnership with Avis Budget Group to manage its robotaxi fleet. [Photo: Business Wire]<\/p>\n<p>The update on Waymo\u2019s planned Dallas launch comes on the heels of two other recent robotaxi announcements for the city.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2024, San Francisco-based Uber and Austin-based Avride announced a multiyear partnership that was to bring Avride\u2019s delivery robots and robotaxis to Uber and Uber Eats. The Uber robotaxi service is <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasinnovates.com\/uber-and-avride-partner-to-offer-robotaxis-and-robot-meal-deliveries-in-dallas\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">slated to launch for riders in Dallas<\/a> later in 2025, the company has previously said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-271289\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Photo-Lyft-970-deep-e1739313511999.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"970\" height=\"464\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-271289\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">[Photo: Lyft]<\/p>\n<p>Lyft said last February that <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasinnovates.com\/lyft-is-launching-a-robotaxi-service-in-dallas\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">it will roll out its own Dallas robotaxi service<\/a> \u201cas soon as 2026.\u201d Lyft CEO David Risher said the robotaxi service will be a collaboration with two other companies\u2014Japan-based Marubeni, a leading auto and fleet financing company which will provide the cars, and Israel-based Mobileye, whose autonomous driving tech will power the driverless operations on Dallas roadways.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t miss what\u2019s next.
