{"id":56269,"date":"2025-11-19T15:26:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T15:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/56269\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T15:26:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T15:26:08","slug":"federal-judge-declares-texas-ten-commandments-school-law-unconstitutional","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/56269\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal Judge Declares Texas Ten Commandments School Law Unconstitutional"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A federal judge had ruled that a state law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in Texas public schools is unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The federal judge issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclutx.org\/sites\/default\/files\/cribbs-ringer-v.-comal-isd-tro-11.18.25.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:preliminary injunction;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">preliminary injunction<\/a> on November 18 mandating that certain public school districts in Texas eliminate Ten Commandments displays and forbade them from putting up any new displays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">U.S. District Judge Orland L. Garcia says that Senate Bill 10 violates the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution, which prohibits the government from favoring any single religion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI am relieved that as a result of today\u2019s ruling, my children, who are among a small number of Jewish children at their schools, will no longer be continually subjected to religious displays,\u201d plaintiff Lenee Bien-Willner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclutx.org\/en\/press-releases\/judge-orders-texas-school-districts-remove-ten-commandments-displays-response-second\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:said;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">said<\/a> in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Last month, The Dallas Express reported that Texas Sen. Mayes Middleton (R-Galveston) directed classrooms in the state to comply with the requirement to prominently display a framed or poster-sized copy of the Ten Commandments in each classroom.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt\u2019s absurd the radical left is saying the display of the Ten Commandments is harmful to kids, but pornographic and obscene materials in our libraries are not,\u201d Middleton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/texas-school-leaders-push-back-220022936.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:told;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told<\/a> The Dallas Express at the time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Garcia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclutx.org\/sites\/default\/files\/cribbs-ringer-v.-comal-isd-tro-11.18.25.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:order;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">order<\/a> states that school officials in the impacted school districts must remove the displays by December 1. Those districts include Comal, Georgetown, Conroe, Flour Bluff, Fort Worth, Arlington, McKinney, Frisco, Northwest, Azle, Rockwall, Lovejoy, Mansfield, and McAllen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Despite the judge\u2019s order applying only to certain districts, the American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Texas, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and the Freedom From Religion Foundation are encouraging all districts to ignore the state law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.au.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/Cribbs-Ringer-v.-Comal-ISD-Complaint-9.22.25.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:lawsuit;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">lawsuit<\/a> was filed in September by the ACLU on behalf of 15 multifaith families in 14 Texas school districts.
