The legendary Eddie Guerrero officially has a day dedicated to him in his hometown of El Paso, Texas.<\/p>\n
El Paso City Council officially declared November 18 \u201cEddie Guerrero Day\u201d on Tuesday during a meeting attended by family, friends and fans of Guerrero, including one of his daughters, Sherilyn.<\/p>\n
\u201cFortunately, I really do not think I can say the words \u2018If my dad was here,’\u201d Sherlyn said. \u201cBecause I\u2019m looking at this crowd, and he truly is \u2026 Being here today, I think we can say Eddie Guerrero is more than alive and he still lives on. And I hope that when you all think of Eddie Guerrero, you know and you think of how much he loved El Paso.\u201d<\/p>\n
A live broadcast<\/a> of the meeting shows a room packed full of attendees, many donning Guerrero merchandise. It was recognized during the meeting that Jefferson High School\u2019s wrestling team, which Eddie played for during his schooling years, was in attendance. It was also noted that many car clubs, including one which featured a car that used to drive Guerrero around town while he was in El Paso, were also present.<\/p>\n District 3 councilwoman Deanna Maldonado-Rocha described Guerrero as \u201cone of El Paso\u2019s greatest sons.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cA legend whose passion, pride, and unmistakable spirit carried the name of this city onto a global stage,\u201d she said. \u201cHe represented us. He showed the world the heart of El Paso.\u201d<\/p>\n In an interview published earlier this week, Maldonado-Rocha told El Paso Matters<\/a> that she \u201cgrew up watching lucha libre,\u201d and her involvement in creating a day after him was a \u201cfull-circle moment.\u201d<\/p>\n The 20th anniversary of Guerrero\u2019s passing was honored last week by many in the wrestling industry. Rey Mysterio published a letter to Guerrero for The Player\u2019s Tribune,<\/a> talking about how his impact is still felt to this day.\u00a0<\/p>\n
