Glen Powell\u00a0didn\u2019t want the glitz and glam that comes with living in Hollywood.<\/p>\n
During a recent interview with\u00a0Vanity Fair<\/a>\u00a0for its 2026 Hollywood Issue, the 37-year-old \u201cTwisters\u201d actor spoke about why he chose to leave Los Angeles <\/a>and move back to his hometown of Austin, Texas, despite his success.<\/p>\n \u201cI needed a spiritual place where I could hang my hat and truly be unplugged,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you live in LA \u2026 where everyone is sort of a part of this thing, you can\u2019t ever sign off of that app.\u201d<\/p>\n It seems Powell moved from one acting <\/a>hot spot to another, telling the outlet \u201cthere\u2019s so much being shot around Texas now. It\u2019s about to get even more competitive.\u201d<\/p>\n After moving to the\u00a0Lone Star State, Powell enrolled in classes at the University of Texas at Austin.<\/p>\n \u201cI literally just paid my tuition two days ago for next semester,\u201d he said, adding he is under no illusion this career will last forever.<\/p>\n \u201cAnyone who believes that they\u2019re going to be top dog forever has not studied how Hollywood works,\u201d he said. \u201cSo, the best that you can do is really work as hard as you possibly can. Icon Sportswire via Getty Images<\/p>\n He previously opened up about his decision to move back to his hometown during a June 2024 interview with\u00a0USA Today.<\/a><\/p>\n At the time, he told the outlet it was always his \u201cgoal\u201d to move back home after gaining \u201cenough traction in LA. My parents just turned 70, and you want to enjoy every moment you have near your family.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s really fun to be around people that love movies and love the business. However, sometimes that echo chamber can be not so great for you on the mental health level,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen all you do is consume movies and entertainment, you could become a little self-aware and maybe derivative of yourself. Your personal life, there\u2019s no sort of freedom there.
