Corpus Christi breaks ground on $30M overhaul of Hillcrest parks<\/a><\/p>\nThe state-of-the-art facility is designed to bring the community together to shop, dine and find some family entertainment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Andrew Liaromatis with the Leisure and Entertainment District of Portland said the $33M investment was long overdue for the growing city.<\/p>\n
“There’s no other way to put it, but other than the first of its kind in South Texas,” Liaromatis said. “It’s something that South Texas has needed for a long time to be able to support large scale events, to be able to support live entertainment, to really be able to provide all of the things that maybe Portland or Corpus Christi or Port Aransas lacked, it’s incredible.”<\/p>\n
Deputy city manager of Portland Brian DeLatte said the location of this venue is important.<\/p>\n
“This was the original Portland town site, the original Portland downtown, and so the ability decades later to come back and revitalize it and have the 5th and Home Project be the cornerstone of that revitalization is incredibly meaningful,” DeLatte said.<\/p>\n
Designed to hold over 2,000 guests, Liaromatis said the space will host a mix of community gatherings, concerts and private events.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“What you’ll see outside as you kind of see out throughout the lawn right now you’ve got things like cornhole, foosball, pool tables, ping pong, lawn darts, all kinds of fun activities for all people of all ages,” Liaromatis said.<\/p>\n
As a father, DeLatte said this will be an amazing spot for families to make memories.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I have two kids, um, and that have grown up in Portland and call Portland their home. And so it’s really meaningful to me to have them be able to come out and experience places where, you know, they have, you know, water features or rope play structures or go spend time as a family on the great lawn listening to music or watching a movie or eating in the restaurant,” DeLatte said.<\/p>\n
As construction wraps up, DeLatte hopes Fifth & Elm will become a staple not just in Portland, but for the entire Coastal Bend.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“In Portland we’re all about building community and raising families, and that’s what this project does.
