The 2025-26 season came to a premature end for Dallas Mavericks<\/a> guard Dante Exum<\/a> on Thursday, the team announced.<\/p>\n

Exum has continued to deal with complications from a right knee procedure he underwent in the offseason, the team said, and it has been determined that a follow-up surgery will be necessary.<\/p>\n

A further recovery timeline for Exum will be provided at a later date, but the guard will not be returning to action this season. <\/p>\n

Exum, who had yet to appear in a game this season, also missed most of the 2024-25 season with a right wrist injury<\/a> and a left hand fracture<\/a>. In 20 games that included 13 starts, Exum averaged 8.7 points, 2.8 assists and 1.7 rebounds last season.<\/p>\n

The Mavericks signed Exum to a one-year, $3.3 million contract during the offseason, which required them to waive former first-round pick Olivier-Maxence Prosper and stretch his contract over the next three years. The move was a priority for Dallas to ensure the team had quality depth at point guard to compensate for Kyrie Irving\u2019s torn ACL.<\/p>\n

Through 16 games this season, the Mavericks have cycled through three different players at point guard, including rookie Cooper Flagg.<\/p>\n
