CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Corpus Christi ISD is weighing the possible closure of eight aging campuses as the district faces a $27.5 million budget deficit. Trustees held a workshop Tuesday to review long-term options, though no board action was taken, according to a letter from CCISD.<\/p>\n
RELATED: CCISD takes closer look at performance on multiple campuses<\/a><\/p>\n District officials said the discussion focused on evaluating buildings constructed between the 1940s and 1970s, along with potential rezoning plans that would begin in August 2026 if any options move forward.<\/p>\n CCISD said that the following schools were discussed during the workshop as they begin to explore possible options for “addressing district challenges”.<\/p>\n \u2022\u2002Closing Fannin ES (built 1948), with students rezoned to Berlanga, Garcia and Hicks ES, beginning August 2026.<\/p>\n \u2022\u2002Closing Kostoryz ES (built 1965), with students rezoned to Dawson, Galvan, Los Encinos, and Yeager ES, beginning August 2026.<\/p>\n \u2022 Closing Sanders ES (built 1969), with students rezoned to Dawson, Galvan, Los Encinos, and Yeager ES, beginning August 2026.<\/p>\n \u2022 Closing Travis ES (built 1944), with students rezoned to Allen, Houston, Shaw and Zavala ES, beginning August 2026.<\/p>\n \u2022\u2002Closing Browne MS (built 1964), with students rezoned to Adkins, Grant and Hamlin, beginning August 2026.<\/p>\n \u2022\u2002Closing Haas MS (built 1968), with students rezoned to Adkins, Grant and Hamlin MS, beginning August 2026.<\/p>\n \u2022\u2002Closing Martin MS (built 1970), with students rezoned to Cunningham and Driscoll MS, beginning August 2026.<\/p>\n The letter emphasized that the workshop was the beginning of a months-long process and that no decisions have been made. Trustees requested more information and community feedback before taking any action.<\/p>\n CCISD acknowledged that school closures can be emotional for families and staff but said the financial pressures and aging facilities require a serious review of options.<\/p>\n \u201cWe understand our schools are home to cherished memories and traditions,\u201d the district wrote in a message to staff and families, adding that the goal is to ensure CCISD\u2019s long-term financial stability and meet student needs.<\/p>\n The letter also stated that staff in good standing who are affected by the changes will be afforded the opportunity to remain employed by the district.\u00a0<\/p>\n “We take seriously our role as the area\u2019s largest employer, and we want to reassure the community that, should any of the options above move forward, affected employees who are in good standing would continue to have the opportunity to remain employed with CCISD.”<\/p>\n Community meetings will be held in December and early January to share information and gather public input.
