when police found her body<\/a>. He remembers their connection from the day they met.<\/p>\n\u201cAn instant attraction,” Sanchez said. “We met at the club, and it just started from there, and she was just this great person. Great to be around. Very caring, very loving.\u201d<\/p>\n
The cold case suspect now charged with capital murder is his ex girlfriend, 63-year-old Janie Perkins.<\/p>\n
\u201cI actually broke up with Janie three weeks before I started the relationship with Renee,” he said.<\/p>\n
Gonzales worked as an adult entertainer and was last seen on Sept. 16, 1991, when she left home to meet a client. She named her strip-o-gram entertainment company “Beauty and the Beast.”<\/p>\n
A witness later told police they saw her car parked at a South Cooper Street carwash between 9 pm and 11:45 pm that night. The next day police found her car in the 900 block of Cedar Springs Terrace about a mile and a half away. Five days later, her body was discovered in Johnson County. She had been shot multiple times.<\/p>\n
According to court documents detectives questioned Perkins in 1991. She told investigators she and Gonzales were friends.<\/p>\n
“They weren’t friends,” Sanchez said.<\/p>\n
Court document show Perkins agreed to take several polygraphs and failed each and every one. She told detectives she was home alone on the evening Gonzales went missing and that she did not leave the house.<\/p>\n
Despite the failed polygraphs and alibi that could not be collaborated, Perkins was never charged in the case. Today, court documents make mention of at least two people who claim Perkins told them she was responsible for the murder, but police would never find the murder weapon or locate any evidence to tie her to the case.<\/p>\n
With no arrests the case eventually went cold. After 34 years, a new partnership between the Arlington Police Department and criminology students at the University of Texas at Arlington helped develop new leads, leading to charges against Perkins.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn arrest warrant for 63-year-old Jane Perkins on one count of capital murder,” Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said.<\/p>\n
Court documents also reveal police identified Sanchez as the romantic partner both women shared. Still, Sanchez insists there was never a love triangle because he was never dating both women at the same time. Sanchez told WFAA that he fell in love with Gonzales and it was love at first sight for both of them.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don’t even know if I can explain the feeling,” Sanchez said.<\/p>\n
