CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 A new billboard featuring conservative activist Charlie Kirk has appeared along a busy Corpus Christi highway, put up by local Republican groups to honor the late activist and promote political unity.<\/p>\n
The billboard, located on South Padre Island Drive and Everhart Road, displays Kirk’s image with the words “We Are Charlie.” It went up this month and is funded by the Nueces County Republican Party and the Corpus Christi Trump Train group.<\/p>\n
Joe Michael Perez, founder of the Corpus Christi Trump Train, said the billboard serves multiple purposes beyond honoring Kirk’s memory.<\/p>\n
“I decided to post it because Charlie Kirk was an individual who spoke about what conservatives believe in,” Perez said. “He had debates but they were open minded.”<\/p>\n
Perez emphasized the billboard aims to change perceptions and promote dialogue across political divides.<\/p>\n
“What he did in our eyes, Charlie Kirk was changing the way people who don’t agree paint a different picture,” Perez said.<\/p>\n
The memorial also carries a broader message about political discourse in today’s climate, ending political violence and brinding unity to the community.<\/p>\n
The groups behind the billboard also organized a Charlie Kirk vigil when he was assasinated in Utah in September.<\/p>\n
The billboard cost $5,000, $4,000 for the monthly advertisement and $1,000 for the design.
Perez says it remain up for the month, depending on continued donor support. <\/p>\n
A ribbon cutting ceremony for the Charlie Kirk billboard is scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. underneat the billboard on Everhart and SPID. <\/p>\n
