CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Ray Texans Hall of Famer Bart Shirley has died after a lengthy illness.<\/p>\n
Shirley was a multisport star for Yay before going on to play basball for the University of Texas. After his Longhorns career, the infielder signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers’ organization and eventually made his big league debut in 1964.<\/p>\n
He played with the Dodgers and Mets for parts of four seasons. Shirley then worked with the MLB Players’ Association to try and get his lifetime pension after the league changed the policy in 1980, but ultimately was not made retroactive to former players.<\/p>\n
