HOUSTON \u2013 A Houston animal rescue group is urgently seeking temporary foster homes over the Thanksgiving holiday as its facility reaches capacity with homeless dogs, cats and puppies.<\/p>\n
Rescued Pets Movement, a nonprofit dedicated to saving animals from euthanasia lists at Houston-area shelters, says it is packed to capacity and needs short-term fosters to make room for incoming pets.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re a transport rescue, which means we are saving animals off the euthanasia list at area shelters around Houston,\u201d Lisa Garrison, RPM\u2019s director of donor and community relations said. \u201cWe\u2019re almost completely at capacity here, and so we really need fosters. Fosters allow us to save more animals\u2026 it helps us clear our shelter and get these animals decompressed.\u201d<\/p>\n
RPM hopes to recreate a moment from a few years ago when KPRC 2 viewers helped completely clear the facility after the rescue put out a similar plea.<\/p>\n
This year, the need is once again urgent \u2014 but the commitment is short.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you have a spare bedroom or a bathroom, any way that you can help, we would love it if you could pick up an animal by 6 p.m. on [Nov. 26] and then drop them back off here at the shelter on [Nov. 29],\u201d Garrison said. \u201cIt\u2019s a short-term commitment with a big impact for us.\u201d<\/p>\n
The rescue provides everything fosters need: crates, toys, food, bedding and supplies. All animals already have placement partners up north. There is no obligation to adopt.<\/p>\n
During a visit to RPM, KPRC 2 met James, one of nearly 40 cats hoping for a temporary home this Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n
For RPM, even a few days of space and compassion can mean saving dozens of animals from overcrowded shelters.<\/p>\n
