HOUSTON, Texas \u2013 Two days after the Washington Post ranked two of Houston\u2019s roads amongst the highest in pedestrian deaths, the city of Houston said a 73-year-old woman was hit and killed by a vehicle on Friday morning. <\/p>\n
Houston police responded to the accident in the 9500 block of Wesheimer Road around 6:20 a.m. <\/p>\n
Officers said a Dodge Ram truck was traveling westbound on Westheimer Road when the 73-year-old woman failed to yield the right of way and entered the road. The driver of the Dodge truck hit the woman, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. <\/p>\n
According to witnesses, police said a second vehicle also hit the woman, but that driver did not stop. <\/p>\n
The driver of the Dodge remained at the scene and showed no signs of intoxication. <\/p>\n
This incident comes after we posted a report from the Washington Post<\/a>, which ranked Westheimer Road, a 3.5-mile stretch, first for pedestrian deaths between 2021 and 2023, with 19 fatalities during that period.<\/p>\n The finding was part of The Washington Post\u2019s investigation, \u201cThe Deadliest Roads in America,\u201d which documented a recent surge in pedestrian deaths.<\/p>\n In 2024, we ranked the most dangerous intersections in Houston<\/a>, using data released by Vision Zero Houston Crash Dashboard<\/a>.<\/p>\n
