AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The West Texas A&M Buffaloes erased a halftime deficit by forcing 10 turnovers and shooting 56.3% in the second half to defeat the Central Oklahoma Bronchos 81-70 at the First United Bank Center.<\/p>\n
Buffaloes take control after intermission<\/p>\n
West Texas A&M seized momentum early in the second half. Jailyn Sledge sparked the run with a steal, putback and fastbreak dunk that extended the lead. <\/p>\n
The Bronchos could not match the Buffaloes\u2019 defensive pressure as turnovers mounted, and West Texas A&M dominated the second half 47-34.<\/p>\n
Head coach Tom Brown credited halftime adjustments for the turnaround.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe didn\u2019t play this week. This was our first game. I think sometimes you get a little bit rusty, and I think we were a little bit rusty in that first half. We get in the locker room, we talk about a few things, we made some nice adjustments, and then we played really well coming down the stretch,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n
Brown praised Sledge\u2019s performance, particularly on defense.<\/p>\n
\u201cI tell you what, Jailyn Sledge had a fantastic game for us. Defensively, he was phenomenal. When you can make others better around you, you\u2019re a really good player, and that\u2019s what Jailyn did tonight,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n
Statistical leaders<\/p>\n
Mishak paced the team with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting and grabbed four rebounds. <\/p>\n
James Parlow Jr. added 15 points while recording three steals and three rebounds. <\/p>\n
Williams finished with 17 points and four assists on 7-of-14 field goals. <\/p>\n
Brendan Ballard converted all six free throw attempts and pulled down six rebounds.<\/p>\n
The Buffaloes host the WT Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday with games against Justice College and Fort Lewis in Canyon.<\/p>\n
