Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Calallen<\/a> walked away with it. They breezed past the Canyon Lake Hawks<\/a> to the tune of 42-14 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won five contests by 24 points or more so far this season.<\/p>\n

Calallen was led to victory by Connor Klostermann<\/a> and Jimmy Tipton<\/a>. Klostermann rushed for 85 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries, while Tipton rushed for 100 yards and two scores. Klostermann has been hot recently, having also posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last four times he’s played. Drayson Gamez<\/a> got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.<\/p>\n

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Calallen was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 208 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they’ve now rushed for at least 153 rushing yards in 19 consecutive games dating back to last season.<\/p>\n

Calallen didn’t go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Gamez and Chris Durham<\/a>. Gamez got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.<\/p>\n

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jace Wheeler<\/a>, who threw for 222 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 80 yards on only ten carries. Peyton King<\/a> was Wheeler’s top target, picking up 49 receiving yards and a pair of scores.<\/p>\n

Calallen’s win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 9.5 points on average over those games. As for Canyon Lake, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Calallen will take on La Vernia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats’ defense better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 45.9 points per game this season. Canyon Lake does not have any more games scheduled as of now.<\/p>\n
