{"id":62770,"date":"2025-11-24T13:07:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T13:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/62770\/"},"modified":"2025-11-24T13:07:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T13:07:09","slug":"update-the-u-s-supreme-court-pauses-el-paso-case-over-congressional-maps-order","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/62770\/","title":{"rendered":"Update: The U.S. Supreme Court Pauses El Paso Case Over Congressional Maps Order"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/eph_1-3-980x551.png\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"A picture of the U.S. Supreme Court building.\" decoding=\"async\"  \/>  <\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON, November 24, 2025: In an <a href=\"https:\/\/elpasoheraldpost.com\/2025\/11\/21\/update-one-of-two-judges-disagreed-with-congressional-map-ruling-labelling-it-naked-procedural-abuse\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">update<\/a> to a story we brought to you on Friday, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito paused last week\u2019s court ruling calling the 2025 congressional maps \u201cracially gerrymandered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/el-paso-news-llc.fundjournalism.org\/ephp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"970\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/fund_jurnlist_lgad_1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-687\"  \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As we originally reported, under the Court\u2019s rules, Alito can order the lower court\u2019s order to be paused unilaterally. As we also reported, time is of the essence as the December 8 deadline is approaching fast. December 8 is the deadline for Texas congressional candidates to file to run for congress. The congressional district maps must be set by then so that the candidates can file to run in the appropriate districts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/elpasoheraldpost.com\/2025\/11\/21\/update-one-of-two-judges-disagreed-with-congressional-map-ruling-labelling-it-naked-procedural-abuse\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Last week<\/a>, a three panel of judges issued a ruling on a challenge to the congressional maps filed in El Paso. Two of the judges, Jeffrey Brown and David Guaderrama opined that the 2025 congressional maps were \u201cracially gerrymandered.\u201d The third judge, Jerry Smith dissented, but did not explain why he dissented, calling Brown\u2019s conduct one of \u201cthe most outrageous conduct by a judge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is the lead plaintiff in the El Paso case challenging the congressional maps.<\/p>\n<p>In his pause, Alito ordered the plaintiffs in the case to file responses to Texas\u2019 motion to restore the 2025 maps.
