LUBBOCK \u2013 Texas Tech is in the Associated Press Top 25 Men’s College Basketball Poll for the 12th straight week, coming in at No. 20 on Monday’s list of the nation’s top teams. <\/p>\n
The No. 20-Red Raiders (4-2) dropped back five spots in the national ranking after a week in the Bahamas where they earned a win over Wake Forest but then dropped a game to No. 1 Purdue in the Baha Mar Championship Final. The Boilermakers (6-0) remain ranked at No. 1 while Arizona (5-0) moved up two spots to No. 2 and is followed by Houston (5-0), Duke (7-0) and UConn (5-1) in the top 5. The Big 12 is also represented by No. 9 BYU (4-1) and No. 15 Iowa State (4-0). Kansas and Baylor are both receiving votes in this week’s poll. <\/p>\n
Texas Tech returns to action at noon on Wednesday with a non-conference home game against New Orleans at United Supermarkets Arena. <\/p>\n
JT Toppin<\/a>, who earned Baha Mar Championship All-Tournament Team honors, leads the Red Raiders with 21.8 points and 10.4 rebounds this season while sophomore guard Christian Anderson<\/a> tops the Big 12 with 7.5 assists per game and is also adding 17.8 points and 2.2 steals per game. Donovan Atwell<\/a> leads the Big 12 and is fifth nationally with 4.0 made 3-pointers per game coming into the week. Atwell is averaging 13.2 points per game while LeJuan Watts<\/a> is at 10.0 points and 5.4 rebounds per game to give the Red Raiders four players averaging in double figures through six games this season. <\/p>\n Tech has made 12 or more 3-pointers in four of the first six games of the season, including setting a new program record with 17 in the season opener against Lindenwood and knocking down 12 in the win over Wake Forest. The Red Raiders come into the matchup against New Orleans shooting 68-for-195 (34.9 percent) and leading the Big 12 with an average of 11.3 made per game. Tech also leads the Big 12 with 14.8 offensive rebounds per game and is fifth in the conference with a 1.60 assist-to-turnover ratio. Through six games, Texas Tech is averaging 82.2 points, 16.8 assists, 39.2 rebounds, 8.2 steals and 2.8 blocks per game as a team.
