At that same meeting, Sinton City Manager John Hobson raised concerns about what he described as limited communication between the two cities, saying he hoped future coordination would improve, even mentioning the possibility of a town hall in Sinton.

On Monday, that town hall became a reality with a full house of residents seeking answers.

Corpus Christi officials emphasized that the city does not plan to rely solely on groundwater to support its long-term water supply. The Evangeline project is one of several underway, including partnerships with the Nueces River Authority and the Inner Harbor desalination plant, which the city council recently advanced with a revised memorandum.

Corpus Christi City Manager Peter Zanoni said the city has been working to increase communication between Corpus Christi, Sinton and San Patricio County.

“We have been meeting with Nueces County and San Patricio County public officials, and so the mayor of Sinton, the city manager of Sinton, the Commissioner’s Court, Judge Krebs of San Patricio County,” Zanoni said. “Tonight will be an opportunity to meet with the residents and ranchers and farmers and maybe some business owners as well. And the goal is to talk about the project, make sure they have the facts from us, and then answer questions they might have.”

Interim Water Director Nick Winkelmann reinforced that message, calling the initiative a shared regional effort.

“Communication and dialogue is critical,” Winkelmann said. “One thing to remember is that Corpus Christi Water currently provides about 40 million gallons a day into San Patricio County. So we don’t view this as a City of Corpus Christi project. It’s more of a regional project. It’s a project for the water supply of the Coastal Bend.”

Throughout the evening, San Patricio County residents voiced concerns and questions about groundwater plans, long-term supply, and oversight.

San Patricio County Judge David Krebs stressed that open communication remains essential as the project moves forward.

“One of the major things that we want to encourage the city of Corpus is when the lake levels get back up, stop pulling the water out of this aquifer, you know, and let it recharge,” Judge Krebs said. “Because if you have 22 wells, 24 wells, and you’re pulling 24 million gallons a day out, it’s not going to take long to take a lot of that water out of that reservoir.”

Sinton Mayor Mary Speidel echoed earlier concerns from city leadership, saying Sinton still holds the same priorities. She said that while she understands the needs of Nueces County and the City of Corpus Christi, her focus remains on protecting Sinton residents, noting that she plans to contest every well permit.

Looking ahead, Winkelmann said the seller, Evangeline Laguna, continues working with the region’s groundwater conservation district. If the timeline proceeds as planned, he expects the Evangeline project to be partially launched November 2026.

Corpus Christi leaders held a packed Sinton town hall to discuss the Evangeline groundwater project, answer questions, and…

[14
155,157,156
0":"post-63897","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-corpus-christi","8":"tag-corpus-christi","9":"tag-corpus-christi-headlines","10":"tag-corpus-christi-news
["GET
