Dallas Stars<\/a> forward Mikko Rantanen<\/a> has been automatically suspended one game by the NHL\u2019s Department of Player Safety on Sunday for violating NHL rule 23.6 (Physical Infractions). <\/p>\n

Per the NHL rule book, in regular season games, any player who incurs a total of two game misconduct penalties in the physical infractions category before playing in 41 consecutive regular season without such penalty will be suspended automatically for the next game. <\/p>\n

In Saturday\u2019s game against the Calgary Flames<\/a>, Rantanen picked up a five-minute major penalty for his hit on Flames forward Matt Coronato<\/a> as well as an additional five minutes for fighting and a 10-minute game misconduct. <\/p>\n

Coronato went down the tunnel after the hit with a bloody face as his Flames teammate Jonathan Huberdeau<\/a> fought Rantanen. <\/p>\n

Saturday was Rantanen\u2019s second time this week picking up a 10-minute game misconduct penalty.<\/p>\n

In Tuesday\u2019s 3-2 loss to the New York Islanders<\/a>, Rantanen collided with Islanders defenceman Alexander Romanov<\/a> with 27.3 seconds left in regulation, sending him face-first into the boards. <\/p>\n

He was also assessed a five-minute major penalty for boarding along with the game misconduct call. <\/p>\n

Romanov was down on the ice and needed help going down the tunnel after. He was later placed on the injured reserve. <\/p>\n

Rantanen has never been suspended in his NHL career. However, he was fined $2,000 on Friday for a second offence of NHL Rule 64 (Diving\/Embellishment).<\/p>\n
