The Calallen Wildcats<\/a> will take on the La Vernia Bears<\/a> at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Calallen comes in on six and La Vernia on ten.<\/p>\n

Calallen is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They breezed past Canyon Lake to the tune of 42-14. Considering the Wildcats have won five contests by more than 23 points this season, Friday’s blowout was nothing new.<\/p>\n

Connor Klostermann<\/p>\n

Calallen can attribute much of their success to Connor Klostermann<\/a>, who rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries, and Jimmy Tipton<\/a>, who rushed for 100 yards and a pair of scores. Klostermann is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he’s now punched in two or more in each of the last four games he’s played. Drayson Gamez<\/a> made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.<\/p>\n

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Calallen was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 208 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they’ve now rushed for at least 153 rushing yards in five consecutive games.<\/p>\n

Calallen didn’t go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Gamez and Chris Durham<\/a>. Gamez got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, La Vernia strolled past Somerset with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 51-33. The final result isn’t all that surprising considering the Bears’ considerable advantage in MaxPreps’ Texas football rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 369th).<\/p>\n

Calallen better keep an eye on TY CARTER<\/a>. He was instrumental in La Vernia’s win, rushing for 254 yards and four TDs while picking up 15.9 yards per carry. CARTER showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 67 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of SEAN GARZA<\/a>, who rushed for 63 yards and one score on only seven carries.<\/p>\n

Special teams played a big role in the game for La Vernia, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of CARTER, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.<\/p>\n

Calallen’s record is now 10-2. As for La Vernia, their record now sits at 11-1.<\/p>\n

Friday’s matchup might be decided on the ground. Calallen has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 191.5 rushing yards per game. However, it’s not like La Vernia struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging 264 rushing yards. There’s a good chance Friday’s contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
