Sometimes the best reset is a short drive, a good meal, and some friendly faces.

Here’s where my “perfect” road trip started.

I recently visited my friends at Smokin’ Dick’s BBQ in Post. There’s nothing quite like great barbeque paired with even greater company. They were having a busy day and were completely sold out of dessert, which honestly worked out fine because I’d already planned to double up by swinging through The Slaton Bakery on my way back home.

Let’s pause here: if you’re coming from Lubbock, you’re looking at about a 22-minute drive to The Slaton Bakery. Folks in Lubbock are spoiled — we get cranky about driving across town — but 22 minutes is absolutely nothing. Sometimes it just feels good to get outside city limits, roll the windows down, and hit the road for something delicious.

Now, back to The Slaton Bakery. Mention them online and three things always pop up immediately: vanilla wafers, banana pudding, and thumbprint cookies. Don’t get me wrong — those are legendary — but they barely scratch the surface of what this bakery does. The place is absolutely stacked with cookies, cakes, pastries, candies, and a whole lineup of local Texas products and souvenirs you didn’t even know you needed.

The bakery sits right off the beautiful town square and even has picnic tables if you want to enjoy your treat right there in the shade. We arrived late in the day, so it almost doesn’t seem fair to show you pictures of what was left, but honestly? Even the leftovers were amazing. We left with the best oatmeal cookies I’ve ever tasted, a ridiculous fudge-marshmallow creation, and a carrot cake that may be the best I’ve ever had.

It’s just 22 minutes. Make the journey. Treat yourself. A tiny road trip and a box full of snacks sounds like the perfect way to recharge — and I’m willing to bet you’ll find exactly what you need for your Thanksgiving dessert table.

Read More: Where To Find The Best Chicken Fried Steaks In Lubbock

Lubbock’s Best Candy Shops: Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

From made-in-house gourmet chocolates to massive varieties of prepackaged fun, here are the best candy stores in Lubbock to explore.

Gallery Credit: Renee Raven

8 Delicious Foods My West Texas Granny Always Fed Me

I miss her cooking almost as much as I miss her.

Gallery Credit: Chrissy

Getting out of town, even for just a little bit, is a sweet mission — figuratively and literally.…

[16
168,170,169
0":"post-64768","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-lubbock","8":"tag-lubbock","9":"tag-lubbock-headlines","10":"tag-lubbock-news
["GET
