Greg Abbott\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>About the project<\/p>\n<p>North American power company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nrg.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NRG Energy<\/a>\u2019s 455 megawatt power plant will provide power from the company\u2019s Greens Bayou Generating Station to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ercot.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Electric Reliability Council of Texas<\/a>&#8216; grid beginning in 2028, per the release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur investment at Greens Bayou reflects NRG\u2019s commitment to delivering dependable, dispatchable generation when Texans need it most,\u201d said Robert J. Gaudette\u2014NRG executive vice president and president of NRG business and wholesale operations\u2014in a statement. \u201cThese units will strengthen grid resilience, create local jobs and support economic vitality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new plant will connect with ERCOT\u2019s Houston Load Zone, which provides power to Houston, Pasadena and The Woodlands, and is one of Texas\u2019 largest electricity centers, according to the release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis 455[-megawatt] investment by NRG in Harris County will add more power to Texas&#8217; energy infrastructure and the fifth-largest metropolitan area in America,\u201d Abbott said in a statement. \u201cThis new power plant will ensure every Texas home has affordable, reliable power for decades to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead<\/p>\n<p>The project was granted a loan of up to $370 million, or 60% of the project\u2019s cost, with a 3% interest rate under PUCT\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.puc.texas.gov\/industry\/electric\/business\/texas-energy-fund\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas Energy Fund program<\/a>, according to the release.
