DALLAS – An underground natural gas leak in Dallas\u2019s West End area forced some road closures and evacuations on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

What we know:<\/p>\n

According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, the leak was reported around 9 a.m. near Ross Avenue and North Market Street.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A Hazmat team and a crew from Atmos Energy were called to the scene. They discovered a 6 to 8-inch natural gas main that was leaking.<\/p>\n

Several roads around North Market Street were blocked off. About 300 people were also evacuated from four buildings, including two commercial and two residential buildings.<\/p>\n

Atmos said it has since sealed the gas line. Its crews are still working to make repairs.<\/p>\n

Only the area enclosed by N. Record Street\/Ross Avenue and Corbin Street\/N. Market Street remain closed.<\/p>\n

DFR officials said its team began venting the evacuated buildings once the gas was shut off. The evacuations will remain in place until readings inside the building were considered safe.<\/p>\n

Dallas Area Rapid Transit service in the West End was also suspended as a safety precaution and because of the repair work.<\/p>\n
