Texas Tech women\u2019s basketball struggled to prevent turnovers during the first quarter of its game against Old Dominion University on Tuesday in Frisco in the Hoopfest Women\u2019s Basketball Challenge. Despite the struggles in the first quarter, the Lady Raiders defeated the Monarchs 67-42.<\/p>\n
Tech ended the first quarter with eight turnovers. Senior point guard Gemma N\u00fa\u00f1ez and senior guard Bailey Maupin were each responsible for three of the turnovers. Old Dominion also struggled with turnovers and was unable to take advantage of Tech\u2019s early issues, allowing nine turnovers in the first quarter.<\/p>\n
Old Dominion\u2019s struggles went beyond turnovers, making just 13 of 36 shots during the first half of the game. The Lady Raiders led the Monarchs 31-18 going into halftime.<\/p>\n
The Lady Raiders left halftime and went on a 19-7 scoring run during the third quarter, and ended the period 26 points ahead of the Monarchs.<\/p>\n
Tech shot a field goal percentage of .355, its lowest of the season since Mississippi State, when it shot .394. The Lady Raiders also shot their third-lowest three-point percentage of .273.<\/p>\n
Finishing the game with 42 points, the Monarchs are Tech\u2019s second-lowest scoring opponent of the season. The lowest was 40 points by North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University on Nov. 3.<\/p>\n
Tech sits at 8-0 while the Monarchs move to 5-2.<\/p>\n
