If you\u2019ve lived in Lubbock<\/a> long enough, you know Christmas doesn\u2019t really begin until Santa\u2019s cousin from south of the border shows up. And this year, he\u2019s right on schedule! Pancho Clos<\/a> is coming back to town on Saturday, December 6th from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Maggie Trejo Supercenter<\/a>–and trust me, this is one of those Lubbock traditions that hits you right in the corazon.<\/p>\n

A Holiday Tradition with Deep Lubbock Roots<\/p>\n

Pancho Clos isn\u2019t just a fun character, he\u2019s a piece of Lubbock history. The tradition started way back in 1971 thanks to three community icons from the American GI Forum<\/a>: Bidal Aguero, Gus Medina, and Jesse Reyes. Their mission was simple–bring joy, generosity, and a little sabor to families in the neighborhood during the holidays.<\/p>\n

What began as a small community gathering has grown into a full-blown celebration, powered by generations of volunteers and local groups. In 2020, Fiestas del Llano Inc.<\/a> took the reins to continue the founders\u2019 vision, and they\u2019ve kept this beloved West Texas tradition thriving.<\/p>\n

If you grew up in Central Lubbock, chances are you\u2019ve stood in line holding a cup of hot chocolate, waiting for Pancho Clos to arrive. And now it\u2019s time for the next generation to make those memories too.<\/p>\n

Free Toys, Hot Dogs, Pi\u00f1atas, and Plenty of Holiday Cheer<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s event delivers all the classics. Kids under 12 will receive a free toy, and everyone\u2014yes, EVERYONE\u2014gets a festive bag of fruit and candy. Volunteers will be serving hot dogs and hot chocolate while supplies last, so plan to get there early.<\/p>\n

While you wait for your family photo with Pancho Clos, kids can take a swing at the pi\u00f1ata, dance along to the m\u00fasica, and soak up that cozy neighborhood holiday vibe. It\u2019s all happening outdoors at the Maggie Trejo Supercenter, so bring a jacket\u2026 and maybe a backup jacket. It is Lubbock in December, after all.<\/p>\n
