{"id":67104,"date":"2025-11-27T08:14:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T08:14:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/67104\/"},"modified":"2025-11-27T08:14:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T08:14:14","slug":"thanksgiving-episode-features-2-key-figures-at-bill-miller-bar-b-q-whataburger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/67104\/","title":{"rendered":"Thanksgiving episode features 2 key figures at Bill Miller Bar-B-Q, Whataburger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">SAN ANTONIO \u2013 The latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/topic\/Pickup_Lines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/topic\/Pickup_Lines\/\">Pickup Lines<\/a> segment features Churchill High School grad and Bill Miller Bar-B-Q CEO Jim Guy Egbert, along with South San High School grad and Whataburger corporate chef James Sanchez. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">Egbert enjoyed a successful corporate career at AT&amp;T and then in real estate before being asked to run the iconic San Antonio restaurant chain. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cHe (Balous Miller) told me he was thinking about stepping down and asked if I\u2019d like to be considered for his role,\u201d Egbert said. \u201cHe said they had been interviewing candidates and my name had come up. I had never submitted my name and never thought about getting into retail. I didn\u2019t think it was in my plan.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">Egbert won unanimous support and approval from the board and became CEO, running the company\u2019s 74 Bill Miller locations and six Laguna Madre properties across San Antonio and South and Central Texas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">Meanwhile, James Sanchez was introduced to sales and the food industry at an early age. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cMy father had a good living, but as a kid, he worked for my grandfather\u2019s produce business,\u201d Sanchez said. \u201cHe picked tomatoes and went around the country, Indiana and so on. He followed that lifestyle of picking vegetables and so he did well to keep us in middle class and above.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 kNAFkD cuqaEv article-text\">Sanchez later went on to attend the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, and worked as a culinary instructor at St. Philip\u2019s College before joining Whataburger.
