On Friday, Texas Tech took a hard loss to No. 1 Purdue. The Red Raiders did not play their best, but the game clearly showed why Purdue is the top-ranked team in the nation. In a press conference on Tuesday, coach Grant McCasland gave his perspective on the loss.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think humility is a great thing, it\u2019s not great to experience, it\u2019s no fun to be a part of,\u201d he said. \u201cBut great growth comes from new opportunities to embrace when you were not your best.\u201d<\/p>\n
McCasland went on to talk about how he does not like to forget about losses and \u201cflush them out\u201d like a lot of coaches like to tell their players. <\/p>\n
Rather, he wants to remember the losses to further correct the mistakes made and build on the good plays moving forward. Going to the Bahamas and experiencing that level of play wasn\u2019t discouraging for the Red Raiders. It could prove to be a great experience for the team have been a part of to further build onto as they get deeper into the season.<\/p>\n
McCasland reaffirms his high expectations<\/p>\n
McCasland\u2019s reassessment of the game was negative. He made it clear that the team needs to make changes and correct mistakes. However, this is what one would want to hear from the coach when the team is 4-2. His expectations for the team does not change whether the team is 6-0 or 0-6. The Red Raiders have a brand and an identity that a record does not define. The players, the coaches, and the entire program define it.<\/p>\n
\u201cI genuinely love this team and have the highest of expectations,\u201d he said. \u201cOur guys leaned into what we learned from that that game, and we made about as many mistakes as you can make, and played about as as fractured as we could have played.\u201d<\/p>\n
