In the first half, Joey McGuire and the Red Raiders absolutely demolished the Mountaineers and had no issue at all when it came to moving the ball on offense (or creating headaches for West Virginia’s offense).

I’ve got a few thoughts on the Red Raiders’ dominant performances as Texas Tech is absolutely thriving against the Mountaineers.

No. 1: I love seeing the Red Raiders firing on all cylinders on offense and Behren Morton playing championship-level football

It’s so good to see Morton, who has been dinged up at various times throughout the season (and also throughout so much of his career) play at a high level while on the road against the West Virginia Mountaineers.

While West Virginia is far from being a national title sort of team, it’s still encouraging that Morton has been able to complete 77 percent of his passes and toss three touchdowns while also avoiding turnovers and limiting sacks. He’s making great decisions and looks like a quarterback who can lead Texas Tech effectively in the Big 12 championship game and also the College Football Playoff.

No. 2: Shiel Wood deserves all the credit in the world for developing Texas Tech’s defense into something that is absolutely terrifying

Getting Mack Leftwich to be Texas Tech’s offensive coordinator was a huge hire that I’m a huge fan of. I love the offense that Leftwich has brought to Lubbock. But we should never stop talking about how Shiel Wood left the Houston Cougars and has elevated the Red Raider defense into one of the best in the country.

The Mountaineers had zero net rushing yards in the first half and were 0-for-6 on third down attempts. Add in a couple of sacks and five tackles for loss and it’s clear that the Red Raiders are completely and totally disruptive on defense.

No. 3: Caleb Douglas and Terrance Carter Jr. are such good receiving threats for the Red Raiders

In the red zone, Caleb Douglas has been such a devastating receiving threat as he’s managed to catch two scores already for the Red Raiders. That includes a 19-yard strike and a 4-yard strike. And it’s great to see that he’s not alone in this.

Terrance Carter Jr. has also been great to see in the passing game for Texas Tech. It’s clear that Morton trusts his tight end and has managed to get 10 passes for 98 yards over to Carter in the first half alone. Texas Tech’s offense looks good and ready to compete in the postseason.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders aren’t having any problem on the road when facing the West Virginia Mountaineers.…

[16
168,170,169
0":"post-70168","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-lubbock","8":"tag-lubbock","9":"tag-lubbock-headlines","10":"tag-lubbock-news
["GET
