The property is part art park, part cultural events center. It features work from more than 30 artists inside the 6,000-square-foot gallery and on mural walls. <\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also a cafe and shop where one could buy, say, spray paint to tag the gallery&#8217;s outer walls. <\/p>\n<p>On opening day, visitors painted robots, band names, eyeballs and Labubus in all colors and sizes. Friends lifted friends up on shoulders to add finishing touches. With his dog Bonnie at his side, he finished up a mural that said \u201cTe amo para siempre\u201d in big block red letters with bubbly blue clouds behind them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople have been taking pictures with it, posing with it, so it&#8217;s pretty cool,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>A temporary exhibit turned long term<\/p>\n<p>Andi Scull, founder and creative director of the gallery, said people were already waiting to get in an hour before opening Friday. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re back,&#8221; she said. <\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s eager to bring back the old vibe, too \u2014 one that&#8217;s all about creating safe places for the creative community to come together. <\/p>\n<p>The original HOPE Outdoor Gallery was supposed to be temporary when it opened in 2010. <\/p>\n<p>Scull had gotten permission from the owners of the property to use the foundation of an unfinished condo development for a graffiti park. For the first big installation, she enlisted <a href=\"https:\/\/obeygiant.com\/\" class=\"Link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Shepard Fairey,<\/a> who helped her launch a campaign called Helping Other People Everywhere (HOPE), which connects artists to humanitarian causes. Chin, the director of hospitality, and Andi Scull, founder of the HOPE Outdoor Gallery, pose inside the 6,000-square-foot gallery at the new space. <\/p>\n<p>The towering concrete slabs became a canvas for anyone with a spray paint can \u2014 regardless of talent. New murals were painted over old ones on a regular basis, offering a \u201cliving art exhibit\u201d that drew locals and tourists alike.<\/p>\n<p>That exhibit lasted nearly a decade.<\/p>\n<p>C.K. Chin, the gallery\u2019s director of hospitality, said that&#8217;s because the site was about more than graffiti. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;On any given day,&#8221; he said, &#8220;you&#8217;ll have someone putting up a mural, a random tourist that popped by to just look at some art, somebody doing breakdancing on top of a piece of concrete, a proposal happening in the corner.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It also gave people a space to try new things.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that&#8217;s the coolest part about what we really learned in the 10 years of the project,\u201d Scull said. \u201cTry things big, and try weird things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But HOPE shut down in 2019 as work began on a luxury condo building.<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Image\" alt=\"A diptych is shown with a wall of graffiti with a heart at left and a skull at right shown and another image with a baby's face wearing a hat shown on a green and blue background of a building. \"  width=\"880\" height=\"304\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/1764587830_306_\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Lorianne Willett<\/p>\n<p>\/<\/p>\n<p> KUT News<\/p>\n<p>The site includes curated installations, as well as walls for any visitor to spray paint.<\/p>\n<p>You won&#8217;t know unless you try<\/p>\n<p>Scull and Chin knew they needed a permanent home for the gallery. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was really audacious and really kind of crazy to even consider. They ultimately found the spot on Dalton Lane near the airport.<\/p>\n<p>The project stalled because of construction issues, permitting challenges and the pandemic. It held its grand opening over the weekend.  <\/p>\n<p>Jen Morton, who was &#8220;art watching&#8221; with her family, said she thinks the current space feels more intentional. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last one was like a pirate situation. It felt like anyone could come and just do whatever they wanted.
