Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo posted a photo of her and her fiance David James on Facebook. Houston Mayor John Whitmire commented that he \u201csure looks like a nerd.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, in a social media post on Monday, announced she had separated from her husband, David James, calling the decision unexpected but the best choice. <\/p>\n

The split comes more than a year after she first announced her engagement and marriage to James, an attorney with Austin-based law firm, Edwards Law.<\/p>\n

The topic of their engagement was later featured in a Vogue Magazine wedding article<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur time together has also seen challenges, of course, but we\u2019ve worked hard and availed ourselves of resources to weather those and strengthen our relationship,\u201d Hidalgo wrote in an Instagram post Monday. \u201cThis year, life took a turn that made us see things differently. So, very much unexpectedly, this day of our anniversary, David and I are separated.\u201d <\/p>\n

She said the decision was made confidently, but not lightly. <\/p>\n
