LUBBOCK \u2013 For the 13th straight release, Texas Tech is in the Associated Press Men’s Basketball Top 25 \u2013 this week coming in at No. 19. The Red Raiders (6-2) moved up one spot in the national poll after earning wins over New Orleans and Wyoming last week to extend the nation’s third longest non-conference home winning streak to 44 games.<\/p>\n
The No. 19-ranked Red Raiders have only one game this week with a matchup against LSU at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the US LBM Coast-to-Coast Challenge at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. The Tigers (7-0) are receiving votes in this week’s AP Top 25 and will play at Boston College on Wednesday before meeting up in Fort Worth. Tech’s streak of 13 straight appearances in the AP Top 25 extends the program record that began in Week 13 of last season, reached No. 8 in the final poll and was extended into this year with a No. 10 preseason poll ranking which was also the highest in program history. Tech was at No. 20 last week.<\/p>\n
Purdue remains at No. 1 in the AP Top 25 with a 7-0 record and is followed by Arizona (7-0), Michigan (7-0), Duke (8-0) and UConn (6-1) in the poll’s top five. The Big 12 is also represented by No. 8 Houston (7-1), No. 9 BYU (6-1), No. 10 Iowa State (7-0) and No. 21 Kansas (6-2). The Red Raiders are currently 0-2 against AP Top 25 teams with a loss at Illinois and falling to Purdue in the Baha Mar Championship. Tech will play No. 25 Arkansas (5-2) on Saturday, December 13 in Dallas before playing No. 4 Duke on Saturday, December 20 at Madison Square Garden.<\/p>\n
Along with the AP Top 25, the Red Raiders also come in at No. 19 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.<\/p>\n
JT Toppin<\/a> leads Texas Tech with 22.1 points, 11.0 rebounds and three double-doubles this season while Christian Anderson<\/a> is producing 18.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. Toppin is the Big 12 leader in rebounds and is third in the conference in scoring while Anderson is second in the Big 12 and 11th nationally in assists per game. Donovan Atwell<\/a> is currently third in the Big 12 by making 3.5 3-pointers per game and is averaging 12.4 points per game while LeJuan Watts<\/a> scored 19 points against Wyoming and is now at 11.6 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. The Red Raiders come into this week averaging 81.4 points, 16.4 assists, 39.4 rebounds and 7.6 steals per game.
