{"id":73231,"date":"2025-12-02T19:20:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T19:20:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/73231\/"},"modified":"2025-12-02T19:20:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T19:20:07","slug":"2-candidates-file-for-plano-city-seat-as-special-election-filing-period-closes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/73231\/","title":{"rendered":"2 candidates file for Plano city seat as special election filing period closes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tShun Thomas and Colleen Aguilar-Epstein have filed to run for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plano.gov\/1896\/2026-Candidates\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Plano City Council Place 7<\/a> following the close of the filing period Dec. 1, according to City Secretary Lisa McAlister.<\/p>\n<p>The council seat will be filled through a special election scheduled for Jan. 31.<\/p>\n<p>What you need to know<\/p>\n<p>The seat opened after Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Julie Holmer <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/plano-south\/government\/2025\/11\/04\/plano-city-council-member-julie-holmer-resigns-to-pursue-county-seat\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> she would resign to run for Collin County Commissioners Court Precinct 4 in the 2026 election. The winning candidate will serve the remainder of Holmer\u2019s term, which expires in May 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Plano City Council accepted Holmer\u2019s resignation Oct. 27 and called the special election at a Nov. 10 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead<\/p>\n<p>Early voting starts Jan. 14 and will run through Jan. 27.
