Abbot’s offered frozen custards, specialty sundaes and splits, milkshakes, flurries, floats, and even cakes and novelties like frozen bananas. Additionally, it was a sweet treat spot in an area of town that’s still developing, so now folks who live out there may have to drive a little further to get their fix. Now, if you want Abbot’s in Texas, you’ll have to drive all the way to Kyle, McKinney, or Prosper.

Read More: Why Dimbas Chicken & Seafood In Lubbock Is Closing Until 2026

Why Abbot’s May Have Closed In Lubbock

Times have been tough for the food service industry for years now. As much as I might want to take my family out to ice cream, I do have to consider if $20 here and there is better spent on utilities or rent.

Read More: Why Did Starbucks Close A Lubbock Location?

Other Options In Lubbock

For frozen custard, Lubbock still has J’s Creamery (5101 82nd St) and two locations of Freddy’s Frozen Custard. For ice cream, Lubbock has many options, including the iconic and oh-so-charming Holly Hop Ice Cream Shoppe (3404 34th St).

Being a frozen treat spot in December and January is never easy, and 2025 probably made it nearly impossible for some businesses.
