Desperados Mexican Restaurant, a family-owned Dallas institution since 1976, is set to open a new location at 5960 W. Parker Road in Plano’s Willow Bend Market.

The space, formerly home to On the Border, will soon welcome diners eager to experience the same bold flavors that have made Desperados a Dallas staple for nearly five decades. Construction began in mid-September, with completion expected by the end of October.

A Family Tradition Since 1976

Founded by Vietnam War veteran Jorge Levy, Desperados has remained a true family affair. Levy’s sons, Jacob and Michael, along with catering manager Ameet Somaney, continue to uphold the traditions and hospitality that have defined the restaurant since its early days on Greenville Avenue.

The family’s dedication has kept Desperados thriving through generations, with the Plano expansion marking only the third location since its original opening and a Garland outpost added in 1994.

Authentic Flavors With A Texas Twist

Desperados built its reputation on dishes that blend the heart of Mexico with the spirit of Texas. Levy even claims to be the first in Dallas to serve ceviche, long before it became a menu staple elsewhere. Signature items like the steak Argentina, Terlingua champion chili and famous Desperados tacos have earned the restaurant a loyal following. Even the guacamole has won accolades for its freshness and flavor.

Photo: Desperados

A Restaurant With Star Power

Over the years, Desperados’ reach has gone far beyond its dining room. The restaurant’s catering arm has fed some of Dallas’ most recognizable names, from radio legend Ron Chapman to the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and even the Dirk Nowitzki-era Mavericks. The Levy family has also represented the city at national events like Super Bowl XLV and the 2018 NFL Draft.

Carrying the Torch To Collin County

With its Plano debut, Desperados Mexican Restaurant is bringing a cherished piece of Dallas dining history to a new audience. The expansion not only celebrates nearly 50 years of family tradition but also reaffirms what fans have known since the beginning: Desperados isn’t just serving Tex-Mex, it’s serving Dallas culture.

___

Hungry for more?
