{"id":74918,"date":"2025-12-03T21:49:49","date_gmt":"2025-12-03T21:49:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/74918\/"},"modified":"2025-12-03T21:49:49","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T21:49:49","slug":"frisco-isd-expands-dual-credit-options-with-new-collin-college-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/74918\/","title":{"rendered":"Frisco ISD expands dual credit options with new Collin College program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tFrisco ISD students will have the opportunity to take four semesters of college courses in high school through a new program with Collin College.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.friscoisd.org\/departments\/dual-credit\/collin-edge-program\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">EDGE Dual Credit Program<\/a> will begin in the 2026-27 school year and allow students to complete the full 44-hour <a href=\"https:\/\/www.highered.texas.gov\/new-program-development\/texas-core-curriculum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Texas Core Curriculum<\/a> before high school graduation, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.friscoisd.org\/news\/article\/2025\/12\/02\/collin-edge-expands-dual-credit-opportunities-in-frisco-isd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">district news release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Frisco ISD, we\u2019re constantly exploring new and innovative paths to help students build their futures,\u201d said Christy Fiori, chief academic officer, in the release \u201cCollin College has met that vision with a dynamic option that not only prepares students to be collaborators and critical thinkers, but will save families on tuition and ensure students are truly ready for the demands of college.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>About the program<\/p>\n<p>EDGE stands for \u201cExperiential, Dual Credit, Growth and Exploration,\u201d and the program will focus on project-based learning where students address complex challenges, the release states.<\/p>\n<p>Course programs are set for 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Collin College\u2019s Frisco campus. Families must provide their own transportation for the program.<\/p>\n<p>Tuition per credit hour is $67, which is a significant cost saving compared to traditional four-year colleges, the release states. Students who live in Denton County will receive the same in-county rates as Collin County students. Students who qualify for the district\u2019s free and reduced lunch program are eligible for free tuition.<\/p>\n<p>Some context<\/p>\n<p>Launching the Collin EDGE programs coincides with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.friscoisd.org\/news\/article\/2025\/12\/02\/collin-edge-expands-dual-credit-opportunities-in-frisco-isd#:~:text=Read%20the%20UNT%20announcement.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">phasing out<\/a> the four-semester <a href=\"https:\/\/www.friscoisd.org\/departments\/dual-credit\/unt\/north-texas-now\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">UNT North Texas Now! program<\/a>, which began in 2020. Students currently enrolled in the program will be able to complete the program, but no new students will be enrolled, the release states.<\/p>\n<p>Next steps<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdbMivt7IJuM7asAz5JFGP3696yvALGAKzkTP42I-KhbrXdbQ\/viewform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">program application<\/a> is open now until Feb. 12.
