The Longhorns (6-2) get another shot at an ACC contender Wednesday against Virginia (6-1)<\/a>, which is ranked 36th in this week\u2019s NCAA NET rankings.<\/p>\n

That means Virginia offers an opportunity for Texas to pick up a coveted second Quad 1 win. The NCAA places heavy value on Quad 1 victories when determining its NET ratings, which is an important metric used by the NCAA Tournament selection committee when picking its field in March.<\/p>\n

Texas is trying to stay within shouting distance of a red-hot Virginia squad. Texas guard Jordan Pope leads Texas with six points on 3-of-5 shooting but the other Longhorns are a combined 4-of-15.<\/p>\n

So far, Texas is trying to weather the storm from Virginia. The Cavs are shooting 50% from the floor and 5-of-7 from behind the arc, including two from reserve guard Jacari White. Texas is just 4of-14 from the floor.<\/p>\n

Jacari White drains a third straight 3-pointer by Virginia and Texas coach Sean Miller \u00a0wants a timeout. The Cavs have made four of their six shots from downtown.<\/p>\n

Thijs De Ridder isn’t your typical freshman, and he’s having an atypical season for a first-year player. The 22-year old Belgium forward is coming off several years in professional European basketball\u00a0and has represented Belgium in the European Championship. He was the latest official addition to Virginia\u2019s roster after committing in June and waiting on the NCAA to approve his eligibility bid in mid-July. For the season, the 6-foot-9, 238-pound forward is leading Virginia with 18 points and 5.6 rebounds a game.<\/p>\n
